It seems that I am finding my edge. Often we think of that in a physical sense, because it’s tangible. What I’m finding is my energetic, mental and intellectual edge. The edge of where what I have explored, listened to and deciphered and how it can then be re-shared in the world.
Social media as we know, is a funny beast… the amount of knowledge and information and such varying polarities can often catch you off-guard - what if my experience or knowledge of this is different?
So often, when we come to a boundary or across a piece of information that does not align with what we might know to be true it suddenly becomes ‘misinformation’. It’s like the new hot word for ‘conspiracy theories’. And yet, I have to wonder A LOT of the time if it is misinformation, if we should really be using that word or if we just have to recognise that everything is different and not everyone interprets, experiences or moves in the same way.
For me, I’m 12 years in to teaching yoga, and for such a long time I stuck with what was easiest to digest - the asanas - however over time as I delved and dived deeper into it, there are so many polarities in how anatomically we can or can’t move and so many perspectives on alignment, right and wrong that I had to lean into my own discomfort and teach from my personal experience with my mind and my heart completely open to seeing the bodies in front of me and changing accordingly.
Lately, the past 3-6 years (since motherhood) I’ve been delving deeper into the pranayama, meditation and philosophical parts of the term yoga - and again I’m meeting so many edges. So many opinions, so much information to digest, so many perspectives and experiences. So much so that it feels incredibly edgy for me to 1. add to the noise of what already exists and 2. think of myself in any way as an authority on being able to share this knowledge onwards.
However, I know that I need to lean into that. Just as I continue to lean into learning, to diving into the philosophy with trainings across a broad range of topics, devouring different perspectives and testing them out, I need to also be able to share that on. Because without the art of sharing, these traditions, this wisdom would not have made it to us in the first place.
So stay tuned, because I’m about to lean into philosophy in a written and spoken form (www.kathardingyoga.com/onlinestudio if you want to join me for the spoken version).
Looking forward to meeting these edges, online, with you!
With love,
Kat x
